SUPPORT THE CHANNEL : http://www.patreon.com/VideoGameEsoterica I asked, you answered...and I try to listen 🙂 Of all the requests for new content on the channel one of the most frequently asked for videos is a series on the Terasic DE-10 Nano MiSTer FPGA hardware...so here it is! Retro gaming goodness. SRG320 just updated the Sega Saturn core with new code...AGAIN on September 22th...a more three hours ago...so of course we are going to test the new binary and see how it performs. Seriously...the improvements in performance and compatibility is a small retro gaming miracle! A LOT of games we tested previously have HUGE improvements and some new games work that never used to! and some games that STOPPED working on previous cores are now back and better than ever! Plus Burning Rangers has a seriously awesome improvement! This core fixes a massive ton of issues from the last Saturn core. Also make sure you update MiSTer main as there are some CD loading fixes in there that benefit Saturn! and now it seems like more people that have older RAM modules / the four chip ram module variants are seeing more success running the current Sega Saturn MiSTer FPGA core too! and game saves are here! Which is HUGE for the core! Because playing Sega Saturn in FPGA on MiSTer FPGA without being able to save your game was NOT easy! So that means its time to test a new batch of games...viewer requests too! Note: this is the current build of the Sega Saturn core for MiSTer FPGA and NEW GAMES WORK! but really its the save functionality that is the huge thing! Also this is a MiSTer FPGA Sega Saturn setup guide as the core is once again manually installed and you need to switch to MiSTer Unstable Main vs being on Stable main...which I will show you how to do in the video! This is part of the MiSter FPGA Sega Saturn testing series...but now with a brand new core build! So lets put it through its paces! Because the audio quality on the new core just sounds PERFECT...in spots! Note; you may need to format memory depending on the game. THIS IS THE LATEST TEST OF 2023 using the September 22nd Sega Saturn FPGA core…and I can't wait to follow along with the Sega Saturn FPGA core progress in 2023. It's been incredible to watch the retrogaming community test the Sega Saturn core from Srg320 and I can't wait to see more improvements! Games Tested: Thunder Force V, Dragon Quest, Crypt Killer, Death Crimson and more Sega Saturn hidden gems! Note: You can use a single RAM or dual RAM build of the Sega Saturn core for MiSTer FPGA. You need Unstable Main currently as well! Consider supporting SRG320. He could use it! and thanks to Andy D! https://www.patreon.com/srg320/posts Questions? Comments? MiSTer FPGA Sega Saturn Core Gets More Massive Updates Today! New Games Playable!

Video Game Esoterica 584 views 3 hours ago

SUPPORT THE CHANNEL : http://www.patreon.com/VideoGameEsoterica This is just getting funny at this point...FPGAZumSpass is just a coding robot. Not a real human. He dropped ANOTHER core four hours ago and here is the results of that work! A ton more working games and SRAM functionality to get some new games working as well! Plus PAL support from a few days ago! and now more RDP code that brought an entirely new batch of games to the core working for the first time! I really wanted to challenge myself with the quick turn around MiSTer FPGA N64 video today...and I made it! and now we have new games that run and Flash saving which allows you to save in some games that didnt before as well as actually play some games that would not work unless it found the flash save capabilities! and then he added in more code TODAY to get controller pak support working meaning every single working N64 game now has game saves! You can find the code on the MiSTer FPGA Discord under test builds. and you no longer need Unstable MiSTer main to run the core! We have Z buffering, we have fog effects, we have N64 texture filtering, we have sound and a ton of very playable games on the current MiSTer FPGA Nintendo 64 core! Plus The Legend of Zelda: The Ocarina of Time Master Quest is now VERY playable...as is Super Smash Bros and Resident Evil 2! And Donkey Kong 64, and Star Wars, and F Zero and Kirby 64 and Cruisn Exotica...and the list goes ON AND ON AND ON. Some real N64 best games and N64 hidden gems here! If you need a setup guide my previous Nintendo 64 MiSTer FPGA video has that so here you go: https://youtu.be/vBJUx7kCEmg Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kuranghu, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerhold, Adrien Sebbane, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Ben Parfitt, Holger Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty, Richard S, Eric Gutt and Robert Alger! I asked, you answered...and I try to listen 🙂 Of all the requests for new content on the channel one of the most frequently asked for videos is a series on the Terasic DE-10 Nano MiSTer FPGA hardware...so here it is! Retro gaming goodness. On this episode of our MiSTer series we are going to be talking about the recent happenings in the MiSTer FPGA scene in regards to the potential of a Nintendo 64 core for MiSTer FPGA! Nobody saw it coming...and it was long considered an "impossible core" but perhaps Nintendo's first 3D console might be coming to MiSTer soon! Which would be amazing as there are a ton of great games for it and software emulation, while much improved, is still a bit hit or miss. Plus modding a N64 for HDMI out is expensive and VERY difficult! N64 on MiSTer FPGA would be a huge moment for video game history and preservation too! The N64 core RSP work seems to be getting buttoned up...so next comes the RDP or Reality Display Processor which is in progress and it now has perspective correction built in! . Which means we can now "play" Super Mario 64, Mario Kart 64, Wave Race 64, even The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask...and some other items! and most of the corrupted graphics have been solved by this point in time! Plus F-Zero and Pokemon Snap now too! and Cubivore! And Animal Crossing...and 007 (no not GoldeEye yet) plus Pokemon Stadium! And Harvest Moon 64, and Extreme G and Glover 64...plus some beta Ocarina of Time! But after the PS1 core on MiSTer (developed by Robert as well) and the PSX 2X core…nobody should doubt his talents! and when it comes out just play Bomberman Hero, the N64 hidden gem of choice around this channel! This is just getting funny at this point...FPGAZumSpass is just a coding robot.

If you need a setup guide my previous Nintendo 64 MiSTer FPGA video has that so here you go: https://youtu.be/vBJUx7kCEmg

SUPPORT THE CHANNEL : http://www.patreon.com/VideoGameEsoterica Almost a year ago I did a SECOND tutorial video on how to use the Analog IO board on MiSTer FPGA to get crystal clear and amazing RGB signal into your PVM! But MiSTer moves fast and now we have RGB, VGA, component video, S-Video and composite video on MiSTer FPGA...which covers every format from a VGA monitor to a Sony PVM CRT to consumer CRT's...so I need to update the video one last time! MiSTer FPGA N64 Core Gets MORE Updates! More Playable Games + Controller Pak Support!

Retro gaming goodness. SRG320 just updated the Sega Saturn core with new code...AGAIN on September 19th...so of course we are going to test the new binary and see how it performs. It's been incredible to watch the retrogaming community test the Sega Saturn core from Srg320 and I can't wait to see more improvements! And Animal Crossing...and 007 (no not GoldeEye yet) But after the PS1 core on MiSTer (developed by Robert as well) and the PSX 2X core…nobody should doubt his talents! and when it comes out just play Bomberman Hero, the N64 hidden gem of choice around this channel! This is just getting funny at this point...FPGAZumSpass is just a coding robot. Not a real human. He dropped ANOTHER core yesterday and here is the results of that work! A ton more working games and SRAM functionality to get some new games working as well! Plus PAL support from a few days ago! and now more RDP code that brought an entirely new batch of games to the core working for the first time!

and now we have new games that run and Flash saving which allows you to save in some games that didnt before as well as actually play some games that would not work unless it found the flash save capabilities!

MiSTer FPGA N64 New Core AGAIN! More Games Playable Plus More Ways to Save! And James Bond Too!

Retro gaming goodness. SRG320 just updated the Sega Saturn core with new code...AGAIN on September 15th...so of course we are going to test the new binary and see how it performs. Seriously...the improvements in performance and compatibility is a small retro gaming miracle! A LOT of games we tested previously have HUGE improvements and some new games work that never used to! and some games that STOPPED working on previous cores are now back and better than ever! Plus Burning Rangers has a seriously awesome improvement! and now it seems like more people that have older RAM modules / the four chip ram module variants are seeing more success running the current Sega Saturn MiSTer FPGA core too! and game saves are here! See here https://vampier.net/Saturn/ Patreon Thanks: Seth Peterson, John Thompson, Paul Daniel, Porch, Jon Anderson, RayceARoni, Kuranghu, Jason Hixon, Alex Tessler, Jonathan Leung, Martin Donlon, Tom Van Deusen, barabob, Steve Randall, Ahab, K-2, Renaissance 2K, Ivar Wennerhold, Adrien Sebbane, Mike Puelinckx, Tony Escobar, H7, Ben Parfitt, Holger Schmidt, Tim Lehner, Shad Uttam, Dan L, Coupon Joe, Sunder Raj, Dorfus the Maple Syrup Man, John Booty, Richard S, Eric Gutt and Robert Alger! THIS IS THE LATEST TEST OF 2023 using the August 9th Sega Saturn FPGA core…and I can't wait to follow along with the Sega Saturn FPGA core progress in 2023. It's been incredible to watch the retrogaming community test the Sega Saturn core from Srg320 and I can't wait to see more improvements! Games Tested: Manx TT, Sega Rally, Burning Rangers, Cotton Boomerang, Street Fighter Alpha 3 / Street Fighter Zero 3, Policenauts English translation and the new JB Harold: Blue Chicago Blues translation. Some Sega Saturn hidden gems here! Note: You can use a single RAM or dual RAM build of the Sega Saturn core for MiSTer FPGA. You need Unstable Main currently as well! Consider supporting SRG320. Quick comparison of 240p120Hz vs 240p60Hz / CRT TV vs PC CRT / 15kHz vs 31kHz for 240p content **This seems to be a highly debated topic** LOL I say try 240p 120Hz on a PC CRT for yourself and dont just negate this option by all the negative "nasty motion blur" comments. I understand going from 60Hz to 120Hz is doubling each frame and technically creating a strobing motion artifact....... Do I see it or does it bother me?...... No I think alot of people are just parroting that it will look like crap and havent tried it on MiSTer with these settings, cause thats exactly what I was doing just a few days ago before I tried it. Maybe youve tried it in the past on retroarch on PC and maybe didnt have integer scaling on which caused issues. Everyone is saying the motion blur artifact or double frame strobe affect cannot be seen in recorded video I can definitely see something in this video here that I took.... https://youtu.be/eVNPwl-OstQ Maybe its not the actual strobing/blur artifact of doubling 60Hz to 120Hz seen in the recorded video but you can definitely see the negative motion artifact represented. So in this comparison video of MiSTer on a PC CRT at 240p 120Hz and a supergrafx running the same content on a 15kHz consumer CRT in the same room ,same conditions, same camera..... Any motion artifacts caught in the recording are on par with eachother... https://youtu.be/b0bu4RPOJiA Now I understand a camera capturing at 60fps is not going to resolve an issue of every frame being drawn twice in 120Hz on the PC CRT but to my eyes its nothing I notice or am bothered by. May it bother some.... Sure! I dont wear glasses and have perfect vision and am even susceptible to seeing studder in VR if fps drop under 90. Im just saying dont brush this option off due to all the negative comments without seeing for yourself because thats what I did for the longest and now its the only way I will play mister on a PC CRT. Is it the "end all be all" way to play mister......? probably not. Im very picky with input lag and there is a small amount present..... But after trying all the other video mode options on a PC CRT this is by far the best tradeoff and looks amazing!!!.....to me When I think of a CRT I think of that nice phosphor "crt glow" and every other option on a PC CRT with scanlines dimmed the screen too much to the point that I would rather play on my 4k lcd in 5x scaling or on one of my consumer 15kHz crt tv's but once I tried 240p 120Hz on this PC 31kHz CRT.... Its easily the best image ive seen yet out of the mister or on any crt for that matter so if I was stuck with a PC CRT as the only CRT I owned, I would be playing in this 120Hz mode and be completely happy. Maybe you wont agree but I scoffed at this option as well just a few days ago untill I actually tried it. Everybody has preferences and opinions, All I can say is try it and see what you think. **This seems to be a highly debated topic** LOL

I say try 240p 120Hz on a PC CRT for yourself and dont just negate this option by all the negative "nasty motion blur" comments.
I understand going from 60Hz to 120Hz is doubling each frame and technically creating a strobing motion artifact.......
Do I see it or does it bother me?...... No

I think alot of people are just parroting that it will look like crap and havent tried it on MiSTer with these settings, cause thats exactly what I was doing just a few days ago before I tried it. Maybe youve tried it in the past on retroarch on PC and maybe didnt have integer scaling on which caused issues.

Everyone is saying the motion blur artifact or double frame strobe affect cannot be seen in recorded video
I can definitely see something in this video here that I took....
https://youtu.be/eVNPwl-OstQ
Maybe its not the actual strobing/blur artifact of doubling 60Hz to 120Hz seen in the recorded video but you can definitely see the negative motion artifact represented.

So in this comparison video of MiSTer on a PC CRT at 240p 120Hz and a supergrafx running the same content on a 15kHz consumer CRT in the same room ,same conditions, same camera.....
Any motion artifacts caught in the recording are on par with eachother...
https://youtu.be/b0bu4RPOJiA

Now I understand a camera capturing at 60fps is not going to resolve an issue of every frame being drawn twice in 120Hz on the PC CRT but to my eyes its nothing I notice or am bothered by.

But after trying all the other video mode options on a PC CRT this is by far the best tradeoff and looks amazing!!!.....to me

When I think of a CRT I think of that nice phosphor "crt glow" and every other option on a PC CRT with scanlines dimmed the screen too much to the point that I would rather play on my 4k lcd in 5x scaling or on one of my consumer 15kHz crt tv's but once I tried 240p 120Hz on this PC 31kHz CRT....

**PLEASE WATCH IN FULLSCREEN @ 1440p!** Played in 6-button mode. (code below) Back from hiatus with an absolute banger for the MD/Genesis! I hadn't played Shinobi 3 until a few weeks ago and I can now see why it's so highly praised! This is also my first video using the new updated Mega Drive/Genesis core that nukeykt created from decapped die images of the console's chipset, and is more accurate than the previous core. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com After playing initially and seeing how multiple things were bound to a single button and pausing was required to switch magic, I discovered that there is a 6-button mode in the game that can be unlocked with a code. This mode allows independent attack, block and kunai buttons, as well as a dedicated magic swap button. I played this way on arcade stick and it was a blast with the new-found flexibility in the controls there. The mode was not included as a standard option because the 6-button controller was not available/finalized when this was being developed. 💥Here's the code to unlock six-button control: With a six-button controller in port 1 and another controller in port 2, highlight "Options" on the title screen, hold Mode on Controller 1, hold Up and C on Controller 2, and press Start on Controller 1 to open the options menu. To confirm successful entry, the "OPTIONS" text will change to "OPTION". Buttons cannot be remapped in this mode, so set them where you want via MiSTer's controller bindings. Six-button Controls: A Guard B Slash C Jump X Use Ninjitsu Y Throw Kunai Z Throw Kunai Mode Change Ninjitsu There are also Action Replay/Game Genie codes to unlock this mode, but I would advise not using them since they have issues and you won't get the full benefit of the unlocked controls that way. The final boss fight also froze on me while using those codes. I'm still settling into my new place but will have some more videos releasing soon that are already in the planning stage. Most likely next we will be taking a look at the N64 and Saturn cores, given the great progress they've had lately, and then some newer arcade stuff. I recently hit 1500 subs and 250,000 views on my channel which is tremendous given that I don't really advertise it. MiSTer FPGA - Shinobi III: Return of the Ninja Master (ザ・スーパー忍II) / Genesis (Mega Drive)

**1440p/60!** This is the English version of the arcade original for Valkyrie, released in 1997 only on PS1 in the great Namco Museum Vol.5 collection. 1cc with stock PCB dip settings & my highest score yet. Game played in TATE orientation on a CRT with HDMI video manually rotated via ffmpeg. Awesome to finally take some time to learn this one, after having played through the PC Engine port multiple times & the Famicom original with their great fan translations. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com Overall the emulation in this PS1 port is very good. The biggest issues seem to be with some sound effects having incorrect levels/reverb, though the excellent music is reproduced nicely overall here. There are also scaling issues that will give slight graphical anomalies , no matter if you play in the stock screen orientation or use the "arcade" mode like I did in this video. They are much less apparent in TATE mode but still noticeable. Overall this is just so great to have a fully English version of, since the original cabinet never released outside of Japan. It would be nice if someone hacked this version to strip away the 3D museum frontend and make a more streamlined direct-boot of the game with a smaller image size, but besides a bit of delay getting into the game it's in pretty good shape here already! Great job to the Namco team who archived all of these classics on PS1 via the Namco Museum and Anthology series. It's a highly-recommended series for retro fans, featuring some exclusive remakes of Namco classics also! ▶ My other playthroughs for the Valkyrie series on MiSTer: Valkyrie no Densetsu PC Engine port: https://youtu.be/WTTdrqykBYk Valkyrie no Boken Famicom original: https://youtu.be/YakKbqQx3Yg (links to fan translations in description for both) The PlayStation core was created by FPGAzumSpass, whom previously brought us the GBA, Lynx and WonderSwan cores, along with enhancements to the Game Boy and NES cores, and significantly improved performance in the AO486 core. MiSTer FPGA - The Legend of Valkyrie [1cc] (ワルキューレの伝説) / PlayStation

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 304 views juillet 10, 2023 10:18

It's been over 30 years since I last played this and it holds up surprisingly well! During the course of playing over the past week, I found the game has a tangled web of different versions with various strengths and weaknesses, which I documented below if you want to give it a shot. I also found there are communities still doing regular track time competitions for this in 2023! (Links below) The final track in this video is my submission for ZakStunts' June 2023 competition. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com ⭐Ongoing Competitions: https://zak.stunts.hu/ https://www.raceforkicks.com/ https://ccc.mystunts.net/ ⭐Racing wheel setup: While this game doesn't support wheels specifically, it can be made to work with them quite well if configured properly. Version 1.1 Broderbund is the only one suitable for wheel use. 2 Button/2 Sticks mode in AO486 core. T300RS wheel set to 270 Degree range. To enable joystick/wheel mode in-game, press CTRL-J at any time. Be sure to move marker to all boxes otherwise calibration will not complete. Bind Buttons 1&2 to paddles for manual shifting. Gas/Brake are combined to one pedal, but this isn't really a problem here since brake isn't analog. If you have pedals that have the Y axis split, it would work with two pedals. My general wheel setup guide: https://misterfpga.org/viewtopic.php?t=5982 ⭐Version differences I noted for Stunts: v1.0 Broderbund - Initial release- more bugs & greater likelihood of wrecking from slight collisions than other releases. Huge analog deadzone makes joy/wheel mostly unusable. Controls pretty much like key presses bound to the joystick with the only benefit being analog gas. MT-32 music works correctly. Setup program has additional "PC Speaker (No Digital Effects)" option for sound that's not in other versions. v1.1 Broderbund - Second release- fixed bugs, relaxed wreck conditions, more graphics options like "fast simulation speed" added. Unknown what "Fast video mgmt." gfx option does. (Maybe quicker replay controls?) Moderate analog deadzone with true analog steering, unlike v1.0 Broderbund. MT-32 driver was changed and is buggy. (Music slows down and halts oddly.) Even when replaced with MT-32 driver from v1.0, still has missing notes in MT-32 soundtrack. Use SoundBlaster option in this one. ❗See comments section❗ v1.1 Mindscape - Last PC release, Euro only "4D Sports: Driving" - Smallest analog deadzone, but introduces jitter when joystick/wheel is centered often times, making control overall worse and the game hard to look at with the jittering. Does not have the new gfx options from v1.1 Broderbund release. MT-32 driver seems to be working as well as v1.0 Broderbund release. Overall I'd recommend sticking with the v1.1 Broderbund release, even with its MT-32 issues. There are only short music tracks for the intro, title and post-race screens so it's not a big loss here. In all versions, SHIFT+F1 while in the track editor unlocks hidden landscape pieces! ⭐Playing with MT-32 Music: Use MT-32 v2/New. Distorted/incorrect sounds on MT-32 v1/Old. Stunts v1.1 Broderbund has a bugged MT-32 driver. Some issues can be fixed by replacing the 'MT15.DRV' file with the same file from other versions, though it'll still have missing samples/notes unfortunately. MUNT/mt32-pi seem to have an issue with a high pitched tone that plays when the game launches. All versions effected. Confirmed this does not occur with original MT-32 hardware. The AO486 core was brought to MiSTer by Sorg & considerably upgraded/improved by FPGAzumSpass, whom also brought us the PlayStation, GBA, Lynx and WonderSwan cores, along with enhancements to the Gameboy and NES cores. **HQ 1440p/60 - For best result with my EGA monitor filtering, raise local display brightness ~15% while playing!** This is the story of Shapeir, with all dialogue and sequences logically in order & time given to read along. I tried to keep grinding to a minimum & work it in while battling in the desert for the most part, which you can skip via chapter markers. My hybrid-thief character "Slim Pickins" is imported from my previous playthrough video of Hero's Quest: https://youtu.be/NsY6YwItNEg. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com This took a *long* time to record. I'm not content on just following guides for videos like this and instead took weeks to re-learn the game and examine the sequence of events and how I wanted to portray them here. The main resources I referenced were lists of dialogue options and a script dump of the game so I could figure out the progression of dialogue at parts. It's a Thief playthrough at heart, but more in the Robin Hood style where I do not hesitate to give away any money gained along the way. Probably didn't need to bargain for stuff on later days, since money becomes effectively useless as you get to Raseir. I show a couple extra scenes if you stick around after the ending. ⭐For MT-32, use the v1 (Old) ROM. MiSTer FPGA - Quest for Glory II: Trial by Fire [Roland MT-32] / DOS PC-486

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 328 views juin 11, 2023 4:35

**PLEASE WATCH IN HIGHEST QUALITY 1440p!** Use chapters to skip excessive dialogue! I've been experimenting with a lot of different game types with the Namco JogCon while testing the upcoming "Reflex Adapt" board from MiSTerAddons. 'Stage rotation' games like this are a perfect fit for JogCon & feel far more natural than just pressing buttons to spin. Sorry if this video makes you experience discomfort while watching- this game will invoke nausea for some! Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com This is a little-known PS1 game that I first learned about from Jim "KidShoryuken"'s channel, now called "Mad Panic Gaming". The main reason this one isn't known very well is that it released in 2002, well into the PS2 generation and is a Japan-only release. It's also a very niche genre of game, started by the arcade classic "Cameltry" by Taito. I'd like to find other games in this genre to try out with the JogCon as they just feel so natural to control like this & it makes them a really engaging and fun experience as a result. If anyone has any recommendations there please comment here or hit me up on Twitter! Tips: 50,000pts on a stage gets you a 1up. 500pts awarded for each second left- consider this when going for point items. Stock up before later levels with 1-hit kill "death balls". They are deceptive! Small ones have a much larger hitbox than they seem & large ones have a much smaller hitbox than appears. The "Reflex Adapt" I used for JogCon compatibility is a work-in-progress USB board by MiSTer Addons that converts classic controllers for use on modern systems/MiSTer. It uses the same HDMI-style controller connectors as the SNAC/SNAX boards that MiSTer Addons provides. JogCon code in the board was originally made by Sorgelig a few years back (the same person who created MiSTer) and improved upon with the "fake spinner" mode by sonik. The Reflex adapter is based on sonik's RetroZord arduino code and provides low latency 1000hz-compatible conversion for most classic controller types. This should be releasing sometime in 2023, and is a great way to breathe new life into a limited-use controller like the JogCon! The PlayStation core was created by FPGAzumSpass, whom previously brought us the GBA, Lynx and WonderSwan cores, along with enhancements to the Game Boy and NES cores, and significantly improved performance in the AO486 core. He's currently working on bringing N64 to MiSTer. [1440p/50] Demo by Miracles and Lepsi De: https://csdb.dk/release/?id=102318 - This won 1st place in the C64 demo competition @ Silesia Party 5 in 2011. The music is so outstanding here that I recorded it with three different SID setups. First loop is fully 8580, second is fully 6581, and the final loop is mixed 6581/8580 with 25% stereo crossfeed. Loved the way it sounded in all these configurations and couldn't pick one, so you're getting all three. Which do you prefer? Dim the lights, crank the volume and enjoy! I switch up the video filtering for the final loop also, though it is slightly darker than a good Commodore monitor would appear. --- Commodore 64 core 2023-02-24 build - Apparatus -1st Loop: Audio- Left SID: 8580 // Right SID: 8580 Filter Hori: Gaussian Sharp 55 // Filter Vert: Scanlines - Adaptive\40_70 Shadow Mask: RetroTink Slot // Gamma: Poly 2.3 -2nd Loop: Audio- Left SID: 6581 // Right SID: 6581 Filter Hori: Gaussian Sharp 55 // Filter Vert: Scanlines - Adaptive\40_70 Shadow Mask: RetroTink Slot // Gamma: Poly 2.3 -3rd Loop: Audio- Left SID: 6581 // Right SID: 8580 // Stereo Mix: 25% Filter Hori: Gaussian Sharp 55 // Filter Vert: Scanlines - Adaptive\50_80 Shadow Mask: Imaging Science & Technology CFA MYCK (Lighter) [RGB] (https://pastebin.com/iu27UMHk) Gamma: Off Settings: 6x PAL Integer Scaled/Cropped to 1440p // HDMI to Datapath e1s capture card --- |:=-Timestamps-=:| 00:00 - Start 00:21 - Loop 1: SID 8580 L/R 09:45 - Loop 2: SID 6581 L/R 19:12 - Loop 3: SID 6581 L - SID 8580 R w/ 25% Stereo Crossfeed --- Twitch: https://www.twitch.tv/WalrusFPGA Twitter: https://twitter.com/WalrusFPGA =---------------CONTRIBUTE---------------= None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. First half of Dark Forces on Hard difficulty. This is my last Star Wars video for now! Been on a heavy SW kick the past month, both revisiting some DOS favorites and seeing Return of the Jedi in theaters again. Dark Forces was one I bought right when it released in '95 and it's such a great game! The maps can be complicated/maze-like, but the structure & depth was a step forward for the FPS genre in general- leading to games like Duke3D and Quake a year later. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com Multi-level movement in particular is a step above previous FPS games, with this being the first one I recall being able to duck+jump to get through small windows and spaces. I used that where I could in this playthrough. No cheats used. Got to both hidden Ewoks & only missed 1 secret! Do you know which one? 🙂 ⭐Special thanks to the makers of the "dforcedh" utility I used here!: https://df-21.net/downloads/utilities/dforcedh/dforcedh.zip I never was able to control the game this well back when it released- it's a real game changer! This utility allows for full mouse look & linear mouse movement scale. Includes a lot of other options like adding a crosshair and disabling auto-aim, though I would recommend leaving auto-aim on unless you lower the screen resolution for more FPS. It works in DOS or Windows- check the supplied readme for more information. I recommend backing up the files it changes (dark.exe, setup.exe, imuse.exe & jedi.cfg), as there is a remote possibility of config corruption, which I encountered once when playing with the various settings. If this happens (causes a freeze shortly after starting a mission), then revert to your backed up files and run the main install program again. No need to reinstall fully- just choose your sound, kbd and mouse options and then save and exit. Test the game to be sure its running properly, and then run the dforcedh program again to apply further customization. This is a very rare occurrence, but worth mentioning here in case you encounter a similar issue. Check out https://df-21.net/ for more helpful utilities/patches for Dark Forces and other games! Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

Multi-level movement in particular is a step above previous FPS games, with this being the first one I recall being able to duck+jump to get through small windows and spaces. I used that where I could in this playthrough.

No cheats used. Got to both hidden Ewoks & only missed 1 secret! Do you know which one? 🙂

⭐Special thanks to the makers of the "dforcedh" utility I used here!:
https://df-21.net/downloads/utilities/dforcedh/dforcedh.zip
I never was able to control the game this well back when it released- it's a real game changer!
