Tharkys the Knight came out on the 31st of May 2026 and the Spectrum community has been buzzing about it ever since. Today we are playing it on the MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary, and if you have landed here for the first time, welcome to the channel. This is exactly what we are here for.

The game was created by Jay-droid133 and runs on ZX Spectrum 128K hardware. It is a free release on itch.io and is openly inspired by two of the most beloved titles from the legendary Ultimate Play The Game catalogue, Sabre Wulf and Atic Atac. The developer has been completely upfront about the fact that the entire codebase was produced using AI tools, with no single line written manually. Custom editors for sprite design, room layout, sound tuning, and music were all built using the same process. The source code is publicly available on GitHub.

The story of the game is embedded within the software itself, so playing is the only way to get it. You take on the role of the knight Tharkys, moving through a world populated by skeletons, ghosts, serpents, and bats across castle buildings and gated environments. Both health and stamina are tracked on an interface styled after both sides of an old pocket watch. When hunger sets in, you can eat whatever junk food you find scattered through the world, but eating rubbish comes with toxic consequences. To reverse those effects and fully restore your health and stamina together, you need to find a well and drink from it. Be careful though, because any active power-up you are carrying gets washed out at the same time.

To recover stamina you rest, but standing still for too long is dangerous because the boogeyman will hunt you down if you give it the chance. Navigation through the world uses a default compass that always points toward your next objective, a magic compass that shows the precise route to take, and a map that appears randomly during play and must be grabbed quickly before the wind carries it off. The game is linear despite the open world feel, meaning objectives must be reached in sequence. There is no time limit, but every passing day the creatures become faster and more aggressive.

The game also supports an English and Spanish language option, keyboard, gamepad, and touchscreen controls, and received a controls update for FUSE emulator compatibility within days of launch. A TAP file is available for use on real hardware and MiSTer FPGA.

One player in the comments described it as the best thing they had played in twenty years. Another completed it in a single session without wanting to stop. That is the kind of reception this one has already earned.
If you enjoy new Spectrum releases, retro hardware, and honest commentary, hit subscribe and stick around. There is always something worth playing here.

Tharkys the Knight: NEW Sabre Wulf Style Spectrum Game 2026 | Gameplay & Commentary on MiSTer FPGA

Gentlemen's Pixel Club views 3 hours ago

Poopy Platforms came out on the 18th of May 2026 and it is exactly the kind of game that reminds you why the ZX Spectrum homebrew scene is still one of the best things in retro gaming. Today we are playing it on the MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary, and if you are new here, welcome. This is the sort of thing we cover on this channel and there is plenty more of it.

The game was created by PuttyCAD, with graphics by Ric Lumb and programming by Nigel Critten of 100 Tin Soldiers. It was built using KWYLL, a newer ZX Spectrum game creation tool developed by Paul Gregory, and no generative AI was used anywhere in its production.

The setup is wonderfully daft. Platform 2 at a railway station has been nicknamed Platform Poo, because a flock of dirty pigeons have taken up residence and will not stop doing what pigeons do all over it. Poor Little Miss Moppet is responsible for keeping the platform clean, and her solution is to hire Slug the cat to drive the station steam train. Why a cat? Nobody really knows. The developers admitted they just thought it would look funny. It does.

Your job as Slug is to fire carefully timed blasts of steam from the train to vapourise the pigeon droppings before they hit the platform. The pigeons have their own response to this situation in the form of Slammy the seagull, who swoops in from time to time dropping heavy weights on you from above. Controls are O for left, P for right, and M to fire the steam. The game was updated on the 3rd of June 2026 with a bug fix and a tweak, so the version you are seeing here is already patched.

If you enjoy new Spectrum games, retro homebrew, and honest commentary rather than just highlights, hit subscribe and join us. There is a whole world of new retro gaming happening right now and we cover it every week.

Poopy Platforms: NEW ZX Spectrum Game 2026 Stop the Poop! | Gameplay & Commentary on MiSTer FPGA

Gentlemen's Pixel Club views juin 6, 2026 11:00 pm

Nick landed on the 4th of June 2026, which makes it one of the freshest ZX Spectrum releases out there right now, and today we are playing it on the MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary. If this is your first time on the channel, welcome. Stick around, there is plenty more where this came from.

The game was developed by David Programa, the same developer behind SkillTeam and several other well-crafted Spectrum puzzle titles. Nick is a road connection puzzle game remade specifically for the Sinclair ZX Spectrum 48K, though it also runs on all larger Spectrum models. The original version of the game was designed by LukaszM and first appeared on the Fancade mobile platform. David Programa rebuilt it from the ground up for the Spectrum.

The setup is straightforward. A hurricane has torn through and scrambled all the road pieces. Your job is to move the cursor around the screen, select road tiles, and rearrange them so that every road connects up correctly. It sounds simple until the levels start stacking difficulty on top of each other, and with 50 levels that escalate steadily in challenge, this one gets your brain working fast.

The game was coded using the Z88DK compiler suite, with pixel art handled in Aseprite and sound effects created with BeepFX by Shiru. Level prototyping used a custom web editor, with compression handled by the ZX0 compressor. It runs from a TAP file, a DSK file, or a WAV file for real hardware loading, and supports keyboard, joystick, and gamepad input. Controls are fully remappable. There is also a session code system on the right side of the screen so you can pick up where you left off without losing your progress.

If you get completely stuck on a level, you can skip it, though you only get three skips total across the whole game, so use them wisely.

This is a free release on itch.io and the fact that it came out yesterday and we are already playing it on MiSTer FPGA tells you everything about what this channel is here for. If you want to see more new Spectrum games, retro hardware, and honest commentary, hit subscribe and join the community.

Nick: NEW ZX Spectrum Puzzle Game 2026 Fix the Roads Across 50 Levels | Commentary on MiSTer FPGA

Gentlemen's Pixel Club views juin 5, 2026 11:00 pm

Return to Blacktooth dropped on the 4th of May 2026 and the story behind it is one of the most remarkable in all of retro gaming. Today we are playing it on the Amiga via MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary, and if you are landing here for the first time, welcome to the channel.

Here is the thing about this game. Developer Colin Porch programmed the original Amiga and Atari ST versions of Head Over Heels back in 1989, and the moment he finished, he started work on a sequel. That sequel has taken 37 years to arrive. Return to Blacktooth is that game, officially licensed by rights holder Atari, and published by British indie label Thalamus Digital. It is a proper isometric arcade adventure in the tradition of the 1987 original by Jon Ritman and Bernie Drummond, built for real Amiga hardware, not a modern port dressed up in retro clothing.

The game spans five distinct planets and more than 300 rooms loaded with puzzles, traps, and hidden surprises. You play as Head and Heels, two characters with completely different skills. Head can jump, glide, and shoot. Heels is fast and can stack objects. Together they are the only way through the adventure. The game supports all Amigas with 512kb Chip RAM and 512kb of any other RAM, runs from floppy disk, and is fully WHDLoad compatible from version 20.0 upward.

The port and mastering were handled by h0ffman, music is by Jochen Virgill Feldkoetter, cover art is by Wil Overton, and the loading screen was created by Ste Pickford. The physical boxed edition is due in Q3 2026. A CD32 version has also been announced.

Colin Porch is 81 years old. He called this a labour of love. That alone should tell you everything about what kind of game this is.

This is a brand new Amiga game in 2026 running on MiSTer FPGA and it is exactly what this channel is here for. If you enjoy Amiga gaming, retro deep dives, and proper commentary rather than highlights reels, hit subscribe and stick around.

Return to Blacktooth: NEW Head Over Heels Sequel 2026 | Gameplay & Commentary on MiSTer FPGA

Gentlemen's Pixel Club views juin 4, 2026 11:00 pm

Arc4nerd is a brand new game for the Commodore Amiga, released in 2026, and it is one of the most exciting homebrews to land on the platform in recent memory. We are playing it today on the MiSTer FPGA with full gameplay and commentary, so if you are new to the channel, welcome. This is what we do here.

The game was developed by Gerd Surey of HooGames2017 alongside Tino Menzer, published by APC and TCP, and created to coincide with the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention 4. It is an Arkanoid-style brick breaker built specifically for Commodore Amiga hardware, and it runs on an Amiga 500 or higher with Kickstart 1.3 or above and just 1MB of RAM. You control a movable reflector using either a mouse or joystick and bounce the iconic Amiga Boing Ball into tiles to clear each stage.

What sets Arc4nerd apart from a straight Arkanoid clone is the detail packed into it. The game features over 55 levels, and every single one of them is dedicated to a supporter of the Amiga Ruhrpott Convention. The levels are set in an industrial Ruhr area backdrop, giving the game a personality of its own. Drone-copters and obstacles get in your way, and randomly falling 3.5 inch floppy disks drop power-ups including a gun and a triple-boing ball. Pinball-style bumpers are built into the levels for high-score chasing, and there is a final boss waiting at the end of the run.

The physical edition of Arc4nerd comes in a collector's box that includes the game on floppy disk, a rulebook, a sticker sheet with in-game artwork, a pixel art poster, and a postcard of the ARC venue. A limited Special Edition was sold exclusively at the convention and is completely sold out. The standard boxed and digital versions are available through the Amiga Online Shop.

This is a genuine new Amiga game in 2026 running on real Amiga hardware via MiSTer FPGA, and it is exactly the kind of thing this channel loves to cover. If you want to see more Amiga gaming, retro deep dives, and honest commentary, hit subscribe and join the community.

Quick comparison of 240p120Hz vs 240p60Hz / CRT TV vs PC CRT / 15kHz vs 31kHz for 240p content

**This seems to be a highly debated topic** LOL

I say try 240p 120Hz on a PC CRT for yourself and dont just negate this option by all the negative "nasty motion blur" comments.
I understand going from 60Hz to 120Hz is doubling each frame and technically creating a strobing motion artifact.......
Do I see it or does it bother me?...... No

I think alot of people are just parroting that it will look like crap and havent tried it on MiSTer with these settings, cause thats exactly what I was doing just a few days ago before I tried it. Maybe youve tried it in the past on retroarch on PC and maybe didnt have integer scaling on which caused issues.

Everyone is saying the motion blur artifact or double frame strobe affect cannot be seen in recorded video
I can definitely see something in this video here that I took....
https://youtu.be/eVNPwl-OstQ
Maybe its not the actual strobing/blur artifact of doubling 60Hz to 120Hz seen in the recorded video but you can definitely see the negative motion artifact represented.

So in this comparison video of MiSTer on a PC CRT at 240p 120Hz and a supergrafx running the same content on a 15kHz consumer CRT in the same room ,same conditions, same camera.....
Any motion artifacts caught in the recording are on par with eachother...
https://youtu.be/b0bu4RPOJiA

Now I understand a camera capturing at 60fps is not going to resolve an issue of every frame being drawn twice in 120Hz on the PC CRT but to my eyes its nothing I notice or am bothered by.
May it bother some.... Sure!
I dont wear glasses and have perfect vision and am even susceptible to seeing studder in VR if fps drop under 90.

Im just saying dont brush this option off due to all the negative comments without seeing for yourself because thats what I did for the longest and now its the only way I will play mister on a PC CRT.

Is it the "end all be all" way to play mister......? probably not. Im very picky with input lag and there is a small amount present.....
But after trying all the other video mode options on a PC CRT this is by far the best tradeoff and looks amazing!!!.....to me

When I think of a CRT I think of that nice phosphor "crt glow" and every other option on a PC CRT with scanlines dimmed the screen too much to the point that I would rather play on my 4k lcd in 5x scaling or on one of my consumer 15kHz crt tv's but once I tried 240p 120Hz on this PC 31kHz CRT.... Its easily the best image ive seen yet out of the mister or on any crt for that matter so if I was stuck with a PC CRT as the only CRT I owned, I would be playing in this 120Hz mode and be completely happy.
Maybe you wont agree but I scoffed at this option as well just a few days ago untill I actually tried it.
Everybody has preferences and opinions, All I can say is try it and see what you think.
Try it and see if you are bothered by any blurring artifact, for me....not at all

I cover forced scandoubler , VGA scaling, and custom modelines to achieve 240p@120Hz on the PC VGA CRT. The results are impressive!
I also cover the pros and cons of each method.

**Please watch in fullscreen 1440p!** I've been meaning to try Liquid Kids after first seeing it on PC Engine some years back and realizing that it has strong ties to the Bubble Bobble series, one of my all-time favorites. A few weeks ago we hosted a score competition for the arcade version on MiSTer Discord and I finally gave it a try. I was overjoyed to find it packed with that classic Taito charm- great music & art, fun score mechanics, branching stage design and lots of hidden secrets to keep you coming back. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

This was my second 1cc for the game, after barely clearing it my first try. Two attempts later and I cleared it with only 1 or 2 lives lost. You get 100k for each life remaining at the end of the game, so I'm pretty sure that scores over a million are possible. I'll definitely be coming back to try the different paths in the game, as I just went in the right door every time while learning this run.

Thanks to wickerwaka for his work on the Taito F2 core. This was one of my favorite releases on MiSTer FPGA in 2025 and brought so many arcade classics to the platform! Thanks to the many devs who worked on the various resources used by the core also.

None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. It cannot be overstated how much he has done and continues to do for this project, since its beginning. You can support him either at his Patreon in the link below, or on Paypal, depending on your preference. MiSTer is a paradigm shift in how we can experience these classic games. MiSTer Walrus FPGA 215 views décembre 28, 2025 7:42 pm

**1440p/50** Demo by The Electronic Knights: https://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=88025
Yet another amazing demo released on the Amiga, this one from 2020 and featuring great artwork, some neat 3D effects with reflections, and an interesting chromatic aberration simulation in some scenes. The soundtrack is an absolute banger as well. Recorded on MiSTer FPGA using AmigaVision. https://amiga.vision/

Thanks to the many folks who have worked on Minimig for nearly two decades now, resulting in the awesome Amiga core we have on MiSTer. Thanks also to the developers and maintainers of the AmigaVision project for making the many joys of Amiga easily accessible to modern audiences.

**1440p/60 - Guide below** This lesser-known Japan-only Master System game utilized the SMS Paddle Controller & FM Sound Module. I use the iCode Ultimate USB Spinner for paddle control in this, and while its not a perfect paddle controller with stoppers on each end, the excellent fluidity and easy-to-configure settings (listed below) made this a very enjoyable experience. I also tried the Namco Jogcon w/ Reflex Adapt in Megumi Rescue with great results, and will post a video for that sometime. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

iCode Ultimate USB Spinner: https://www.icode.com/product/icode-arcade-spinner-ultimate-usb-gaming-controller/

Originally a vertical arcade that never made it past the location test phase, the SMS version of the game is an excellent variation of breakout-style score chasers. To learn & do well in this game, your first step is going to be calibrating the control method you're using for the challenge:

ℹ️iCode Ultimate USB Spinner settings, accessible with the built-in display:
Mode: Mouse & Gamepad
Axis: Horizontal
Acceleration: None
Sensitivity: Low

On MiSTer, be sure to set the Paddle control to "Paddle" in the OSD Input menu, and turn FM sound on in the Audio & Video menu.

ℹ️To play with a mouse or trackball on MiSTer you will need to add the following lines to your mister.ini and also modify the mouse sensitivity in your ini to get things where you want, unless your mouse has DPI switching abilities built-in:
spinner_vid=0xFFFF
spinner_pid=0xFFFF
(**NOTE: These settings make every connected mouse device act as a spinner!**)

Mouse sensitivity can be changed with the "mouse_throttle" ini setting. (1-100, higher number=slower)

ℹ️The original SMS paddle controller should work perfectly as well, with a SNAC adapter.

ℹ️Alternately, if you want to play with a standard controller, there is a romhack version of the game that gives it digital controls.

I first heard of this game from one of Jeremy Parish's excellent Master System library retrospective videos: https://youtu.be/MNFTdGzSXjM?si=MHDfJRk28VB2abSg

ℹ️My stage notes:

MiSTer FPGA - Megumi Rescue [1cc w/ iCode Spinner] / Sega Master System

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 163 views novembre 16, 2025 12:33 am

**1440p/60** (My Guide: https://bit.ly/3VvJ8n5) This is one of the very-few NES games that saw a complete remake on the original PlayStation- released on Namco Anthology 2. Perhaps because of the rivalry between Nintendo and Sony at the time, this was exceedingly rare. The remake itself is relatively unknown, with no guides or maps that I could find anywhere on the internet. All dialogue is included, with time given so viewers can use a screen overlay/plugin to translate text. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

Valkyrie no Bōken remake for PS1 is essentially an isometric run-and-gun, much like its arcade sequel. It's also reminiscent of the arcade classic Gauntlet, with the way swarms of enemies are placed at times and the shot attack used by the hero. Respawning enemies are often placed so you repeatedly respawn them just by going slightly off the screen and coming back while in combat, similar to Ninja Gaiden. Other enemies just respawn on a timer. Where the game falters most is its isometric platforming, which feels a bit worse here than the arcade game. Thankfully, there aren't many of these sections.

See my guide on GameFAQs (COMING SOON) for an overview of the controls, items and gameplay in this little-known remake of the original Valkyrie adventure.

My other playthrough videos for the Valkyrie series, on MiSTer FPGA:
▶️Valkyrie no Bouken (NES Original): https://youtu.be/YakKbqQx3Yg
▶️Valkyrie no Densetsu (PS1 Port): https://youtu.be/S9IRXUenmMw
▶️Valkyrie no Densetsu (PC Engine Port): https://youtu.be/WTTdrqykBYk

The PlayStation core was created by FPGAzumSpass, whom previously brought us the GBA, Lynx and WonderSwan cores, along with enhancements to the Game Boy and NES cores, and significantly improved performance in the AO486 core. After releasing the excellent N64 core on MiSTer in early 2024 he is now working on his own game for the Game Boy Advance! Thanks to Robert Peip for the tremendous amount of joy shared with folks across the world while experiencing these great systems on MiSTer FPGA.

**1080p/60!** I held a scoring competition for both of these games recently on the MiSTer FPGA Discord, thanks to a suggestion from longtime member MorkMikael. This was my first time ever playing the Game & Watch, and both games were pretty fun! Squish especially has some large variation in its Game B mode that makes it quite a bit more hectic. Games are recorded in integer 1080p so that the bezel image is not blown-up and pixelated, for a cleaner representation of the actual handheld in action. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

I'm using the "alternate" Game & Watch core by agg23 after some folks showed it with the nice bezel artwork during the challenge. Even with the smaller size its nice to play it with the original presentation, and still much larger on a modern TV than the original handheld itself so I find this to be a happy medium. The games just aren't as engaging for me when only showing the LCD portion blown up to full screen.

I have personally ordered all my parts from https://www.MiSTerAddons.com and have been 100% satisfied with the quality and service there.

MiSTer FPGA - Oil Panic and Squish [Game A & B - High Score] / Nintendo Game & Watch

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 184 views septembre 10, 2025 8:00 pm

**1440p/60** Scoring Guide: https://bit.ly/42I5kOD - I hosted a high score challenge for Kyuutenkai recently and finally decided to learn the game, after first playing it on my Saturn many years ago. I couldn't find any guides for it, so I took some time to figure out the game and write up the first comprehensive scoring guide. I'm confident that these strategies will help someone become the first to max out the scoreboard on a single credit without saving or using the password system. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

Kyuutenkai can be a very frustrating game at first, and relies on knowing how to prevent the ball from instantly tanking in the Underworld section, by establishing the blockades in the gutters and middle very quickly. Become good at this is key to survival! If you stick with it, the game becomes quite fun and addictive. The random jackpot elements are a turn-off to some folks, but you cannot rely on these for scoring runs and instead must focus on being consistent with other areas on the table, building up your bonus and multipliers and cashing them in for huge boosts to your score. The jackpots are just nice additions that feel good when you nail them randomly, but by no means can be relied upon for long-term scoring.

MiSTer's Saturn core is currently being developed by srg320. He also created our PC Engine CD, SNES, Sega CD and Sega 32x cores.

MiSTer FPGA - Kyuutenkai Fantasic Pinball [Guide & 558,499,661 PB] / Sega Saturn

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 192 views septembre 9, 2025 1:03 am

**1440p/60!** Today I'm showcasing the recent v3.0 release of Mario Kart 64 Amped Up! I'm also hosting a time trial challenge for this on MiSTer FPGA Discord, that goes until August 17th. This mod brings significant changes to the original game, including a full set of 16 new courses to race on in GP mode or time trial, fully 3D characters/items, hidden extras and secrets to unlock, and more! I start with the new GP Circuits on 150cc & then the "Grand Cup" featuring all the original levels back-to-back. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

Grab the latest version 3.01 of Mario Kart 64 Amped Up here: https://www.youtube.com/post/Ugkx2XOBFLyHyTdIiAuyJgkckrtlecWnp2PQ

I used the CPU OC version of the N64 core to speed up the framerate a bit here, and also recommend turning off the 3D characters and items when playing split-screen multiplayer, to help improve framerate as well. All the 3D characters/items being rendered can bog things down a bit in multiplayer, I found. I love how you can just toggle that in the "EXTRA" options menu.

Enemy AI seems significantly easier in this hack and once you unlock the "CPU Difficulty" option in the EXTRA menu, you may want to turn that up for a greater challenge. That option unlocks by placing first in every race back-to-back for each new GP circuit, and scoring a "Diamond" trophy for each one.

The N64 core was created by FPGAzumSpass, whom previously brought us the GBA, Lynx and WonderSwan & PlayStation cores, along with enhancements to the Game Boy and NES cores, and significantly improved performance in the AO486 core. After releasing the excellent N64 core on MiSTer in early 2024 he is now working on his own game for the Game Boy Advance! Thanks to Robert Peip for the tremendous amount of joy shared with folks across the world while experiencing these great systems on MiSTer.

[Demo Scene] 3D Demo 3: The Last Drop / Amiga [MiSTer FPGA]

MiSTer Walrus FPGA 834 views mai 14, 2025 8:43 pm

**1440p/60** Music Hack: https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/8628/ I just hosted a score challenge for the Saturn version of Out Run on the MiSTer FPGA Discord and it was a good chance to check out improvements to the core since my last video, including the added wheel support! This is the first video I've recorded while playing in HDR/VRR with my LG C1 OLED. The wheel is so dark because I had to turn the exposure down on the cam I used, just so the screen wasn't blown-out the entire time. Looking to get into MiSTer FPGA? Great quality kits, parts & support at https://www.MiSTerAddons.com

The effect HDR has on bringing back good white levels when moderate/heavy scanlines are used is just next level, and coupled with the already-low lag of the LG C1 it comes very close to the look & feel of playing on a CRT. Amazing experience.

Since the Saturn Arcade Racer wheel didn't originally come with gas/brake pedals it took some hacky re-binding of the gas/brake buttons to my pedals to get this working properly. Got everything set up in the end though, with Hi/Low gear bound to individual paddle shifters making for a very engaging & comfortable play experience. With how insane the traffic patterns can be at times in this port, good controls are a must!

The music hack by OlivusPrime was recommended by Nolbin in Discord during the score challenge, and replaces they very lackluster "Arrange" tracks in the Japanese Saturn version with an assortment of tracks from later ports to the 3DS/Switch and a track made for the Genesis version. They all fit wonderfully with the game and track 3 especially had me pumped to jump back in for another attempt! I'm using v1.1 of the hack, with the variation of "Step On Beat" rendered by the arcade hardware instead of the Genesis original.

Each route was played until I got through without any major accidents. Quite the feat with the insane traffic in later stages, and still an amazing rush when you nail the run even 40 years after the game released! Truly one of the most legendary games of all time.

I have personally ordered all my parts from https://www.MiSTerAddons.com and have been 100% satisfied with the quality and service there.

Salut à tous ! 🎮

### Au programme :
- Introduction: #0:00

- Démonstration avec Mister FPGA: #11:43
- Menus et options: #14:19
- Prix et conclusion: #15:54
- Outro: #19:06

### Nos Impressions :
- *Avantages* :
