The JALECO Mega System 1, also known as the JALECO Mega-1, was a significant arcade hardware platform developed by the Japanese gaming company JALECO in the late 1980s. Released in 1987, this system was notable for its robust graphical capabilities and remarkable sound quality, making it a favourite among arcade game developers of its time.
The Mega System 1 featured a 16-bit Motorola 68000 CPU and a Zilog Z80 CPU for sound processing. Its graphical prowess was driven by multiple custom graphics chips that allowed for detailed and colorful 2D graphics, which were quite advanced for the era. This hardware platform also boasted a stereo sound system, enhancing the gaming experience with high-quality audio.
