I wanted to revisit Rondo for a video played to completion, and when I looked up whether getting all prisoners in a single run was possible it seemed that this wasn’t the case. After some planning I was able to put together a run where this is achieved, but it requires dying on purpose in Stage 2 after rescuing Maria. No resets required or going back to the menu/stage select to pull this off.
I got through the rest of the game with only a single death after the forced-continue, failing a particularly tricky jump on Stage 4′. Could have just gone the other route on that stage, but I was determined to take the waterfall path out of the level to show some of the more unique scenes. The part right after the waterfall is especially tricky also, requiring a key to get in the door that can be difficult to get and requires patience with the streams of bats that go through the cave.
During this run there were tornado sirens going off as one touched down nearby, just about 15 minutes from the end of the run. It was pretty nerve-wracking and I kept checking the weather radar/alerts whenever I had a small bit of time between stages and during the intermission with the final prisoner in the Clock Tower. Luckily power didn’t go out during that intense wind storm and the house is still standing. What a wild run this was..
I’ll be revisiting Rondo for another video in the future to do a no-death run through the game on a different route. With the confidence gained through practicing this run I feel it’s definitely within reach.
