Made by Morphcat Games, the same devs who made Micro Mages, this game started out as an entry for the NESDev Competition in 2019. It was made in a month, and is a short Metroid-ish game where you get power-ups to progress past certain points and backtrack a bit. There are secrets to find in the game as well. The final room after the credits will show how many you discovered.

This game shares elements from a classic freeware game on PC from the early 2000’s that I really enjoyed at the time: Within a Deep Forest. If you like this style of game, you can find out more about it here: https://nifflas.fandom.com/wiki/Within_a_Deep_Forest

(2006 windows game– might need to use Windows 95 compatibility mode, or other workarounds to get this working)

The homebrew community has a lot to offer for fans of classic NES gaming. The extents that they push the hardware in different ways is still fascinating to me, especially with music. Check out the NESDev community forums for other developments and homebrew magic: http://forums.nesdev.com/

None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. It cannot be overstated how much he has done and continues to do for this project, since its beginning. You can support him either at his Patreon in the link below, or on Paypal, depending on your preference. MiSTer is a paradigm shift in how we can experience these classic games. This is a long-term preservation project that will continue to grow so that gamers today and in the future can experience these excellent systems as accurately and lag-free as possible. Donating what you can will help keep the updates coming. Thank you.
