MiSTer FPGA – DoDonPachi (怒首領蜂) [TATE] / Cave 68000 Arcade

This video is in TATE orientation because the current core has issues with rotation that can prevent the HDMI screen from being right-side up when playing on a CRT in the original orientation. This is a known issue and will be fixed in time. Gamma correction currently only works on analog output, and is also a known issue. When the core is updated to address these issues (and I get some more practice!) I’ll have a new video with the correct orientation.

Finally getting around to posting a Dodonpachi video. This core has been out for a while now, but I rarely get to play because I only have one CRT and it’s usually in standard/HORI orientation, so it’s somewhat of a rare treat that I get to enjoy the vertical shooters currently. I’ve had a couple sessions to try and learn the game a bit now, and this run is my current personal best- 3 credits to the 5th stage boss and a high score of 12 million, using the Type B/Shot variant ship.

I’m not a big fan of bullet hell shooters but have definitely enjoyed my time with this one, and will be returning for follow-up videos and maybe some livestreams once I have a bit more practice at it. I don’t copy/research existing runs or superplays for my videos, so a game like this could take a while to get even semi-decent at, but that just means I’ll be coming back to it for many years to learn more.

None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. It cannot be overstated how much he has done and continues to do for this project, since its beginning. You can support him either at his Patreon in the link below, or on Paypal, depending on your preference. MiSTer is a paradigm shift in how we can experience these classic games. This is a long-term preservation project that will continue to grow so that gamers today and in the future can experience these excellent systems as accurately and lag-free as possible. Donating what you can will help keep the updates coming. Thank you.
