MiSTer FPGA – Hero’s Quest (Quest for Glory I) [Roland MT-32] / DOS PC-486

This is the full story of the valley of Spielburg, with all dialogue represented in an ordered fashion and all avenues of the game explored. Time is given for the viewer to read along if they so choose, and timestamps are available to skip monotonous skill practice sessions as well. It took me a long time to organize this run into a direct and coherent experience for viewers, analyzing the different dialogue options until I was satisfied with a specific order that made sense and didn’t repeat certain responses needlessly from the variety of ways you can ask things at times. Some mistakes were made but I’m happy with the way it turned out. This is a game/series that has always been a favorite since first playing it, so it was worth it for me to take some extra time making this. Thanks to Lori Ann Cole for crafting this tale.

I play as a hybrid Thief character « Slim Pickins » in the rare 1.102 version of the original game before they were forced to change the name to « Quest for Glory » because of trademark issues. This version has all the fixes that went into the original QfG release, but is the last version that retains the original name. This is how I first played it- in EGA with the original title.

Mark Seibert’s awesome MT-32 score is presented via the excellent mt32-pi project by Dale Whinham:

Check the comments section below for a list of music track timestamps.

I’ll be continuing the adventures of Slim Pickins in future installments of the series and had planned on importing my character from this run into the Amiga version of Quest for Glory 2 for the follow-up video since it also features an MT-32 soundtrack. Unfortunately the loading times in that version are just awful, so I will probably stick with the DOS original unless I can find a way to shorten them.

If you would like to continue the adventure of Slim Pickins yourself; here’s a link to my endgame character import file:
