All Cups Gold 150cc – Now *this* is an essential romhack for anyone who has ever been a Mario Kart fan. Mirror mode is something that was sorely lacking from the original SNES game, but was later a staple feature of the series. This romhack not only brings the SNES original up to speed with the feature, but executes it near-flawlessly.
This is good enough to have been a part of the main game and feels as seamless as the original in all ways, only with every asset in the game (besides text..) reversed. Haven’t been caught off-guard by the dead end on Flower Cup Bowser’s Castle in a long time.. and this romhack did it to me when I first tried it. If you play Super Mario Kart often, many of the tracks might catch you off guard at certain points, because you’re so used to going one direction. That said, a lot of tracks felt easier for me in this orientation, compared to normal. Definitely the same pain-in-the-ass 150cc CPU AI as the original, that’s for sure.
Special shout-out to Dirtbag, a community member on MiSTer Discord & CGD, for having helped make this hack along with MrL314 and R4M0N. Quite impressive work.
2020 ended up being probably the best year for Super Mario Kart romhacking since I started observing, with two hacks releasing that I would consider an essential part of anyone’s SNES collection.

The Super Mario Kart community has been putting in work. I recommend that any SNES/SMK fans make these a staple of their libraries, and start experiencing this classic game in new ways.
MiSTer’s SNES/Super Famicom core was made by srg320, whom also created our Sega CD core and updated the PC Engine core with CD capability and brought the accuracy to peak levels (along with the help of others!) , and is now currently working on a Sega Saturn core for MiSTer.
