MiSTer FPGA – Giga Wing (ギガウイング) / Capcom CPS-2 Arcade [BETA]

Finally getting around to trying Giga Wing on MiSTer, an old favorite from MAME back in the day that I never actually saw/played in arcades much. Feels great playing this with such low lag and high accuracy now. Speeds for CPS-2 games like this are often wildly different in emulators, with slowdown not accurately represented in parts where it normally would be, which can often make games harder than they should be.

That said, I look forward to these CPS-2 gems being rigorously compared to original hardware for any inconsistencies, in order to get things as close to original as possible on MiSTer. You can’t expect all that to just come immediately- it takes testing and feedback. If you’re a fan of these games and an original hardware owner, please consider taking some time to check how things stack up with some of your favorites. We can get to 100% in time, but only with valuable feedback like this!

I’ll return with some more runs for Giga Wing in the future, as the game really is excellent. Structure and design are top-notch, with a fun assortment of ships to try out that all feel very unique. Difficulty also has a solid curve throughout the stages. This gives the game good replayability- as if the excellent pixel art, gameplay and sound design weren’t enough.
