MiSTer FPGA – Lamborghini American Challenge (Crazy Cars III) / Amiga

** MUSIC ADDED: Racing portions have no music, so I listened to Optiroc’s « Waste Da Wax Flip Da Trax » mix while driving. Listen to the full uninterrupted mix here: https://youtu.be/pJsOJtLu9Ro **
Recently got into a couple Amiga racing games, and one notable standout is Lamborghini American Challenge, which actually was originally released with the name « Crazy Cars III ». This game was released on a couple other platforms including SNES, Game Boy, Commodore 64, and DOS. A sequel was released on N64 called « Automobili Lamborghini ».

Racing takes place across the USA with various courses across the country, varied weather conditions, and even police traps on some stages. Controls are very arcadey, but only use 1 button on the controller for gas, with the down direction being brake. I swapped the down direction to a button to have brake there, and unbound it from the d-pad afterwards (simply swap d-pad down with an unused button). This gives the game better control, without accidentally hitting brake at times when not intended, or having to be overly cautious about steering.

There is a turbo boost function, but you only get one of them after progressing through 8 races, so try to save them for when you absolutely need them. Oddly, there is no controller button for turbo, so you’ll have to hit the « enter » key on the keyboard to activate it on the rare occasion where it’s used.

This is my first video with music inserted into any portion, and I prefer to play racing games that don’t have their own tracks this way since music plays a huge role in engagement for driving games. In other racing game videos that lack music in the future, you can expect the same. I vastly prefer this over only hearing the engine noises and tire screeches. An Elgato Stream Deck makes for a handy radio to use in games like this- a configuration I use for driving gamessims often.
