Spent some time on Christmas eve playing classic Sierra adventure games and decided to record a playthrough for Space Quest III. This is a standout in the series, featuring awesome EGA pixel art and some of the best music for a game of its time. Lots of fond memories of this one, and I’m glad to be able to share it in a video with such high quality via MiSTer’s 486 core. Merry Christmas! ^-^
Unfortunately due to the inclusion of an incorrect audio driver, the digitized sound effects in the original DOS version did not play back correctly. Thanks to prolific patch-maker NewRisingSun, this has been remedied and you can now hear all of these samples as intended along with the MT-32 music score by using his “MTBLAST” patch for the game, which I used in this playthrough:

Some games just stick with you always, and for me Space Quest III is one of them. Sierra was at the top of their game in 1989, releasing other timeless adventure games like Hero’s Quest / Quest for Glory this very same year. I recently recorded a video for that as well, which you can check out here: https://youtu.be/NsY6YwItNEg
The music was composed by Bob Siebenberg, the drummer for Supertramp, along with Mark Seibert. The awesome MT-32 score is presented in this video via the excellent mt32-pi project by Dale Whinham:

* *NOTE* * – Make sure to use the “old” version of the MT-32 sound ROM for this game, since the new one has incorrect/distorted sounds when used in SQ3.
Check the comments section below for a list of music track timestamps.
The AO486 core was considerably upgraded/improved by FPGAzumspass, whom also brought us the GBA, Lynx and Wonderswan cores, along with enhancements to the Gameboy and NES cores. Currently he is working on bringing the original Playstation to MiSTer.

None of this would be possible without the constant hard work of Sorgelig. It cannot be overstated how much he has done and continues to do for this project, since its beginning. You can support him either at his Patreon in the link below, or on Paypal, depending on your preference. MiSTer is a paradigm shift in how we can experience these classic games. This is a long-term preservation project that will continue to grow so that gamers today and in the future can experience these excellent systems as accurately and lag-free as possible. Donating what you can will help keep the updates coming. Thank you.
