MiSTer FPGA – The Chaos Engine [2 Player] / Amiga

Just uploaded some long-overdue Amiga recordings from a couple months back when a buddy and I tried some two-player games out. Neither of us had access to one of these computers in the past so the library is pretty much all new experiences, including this game. We really got our butts kicked in this one, but I wanted to share the experience regardless. 😅

Developed by legendary studio The Bitmap Brothers, this is a decent run and gun, though the stuttery framerate was a bit disappointing considering the constant screen scrolling and movement. Still we had some fun here learning the game and playing a couple rounds. Nowadays there are several much better options for this type of game, but back when it released I could see why this was a popular game for the system. Like many Amiga games I’ve tried it features some very nice pixel art and good music/sfx, though in this one the palette selection in the stages seems very muddy. Perhaps this changes a bit further in the game though- we didn’t make it very far in this tough game.

If anyone has some recommendations for Amiga games to try (both single and two-player) please leave a comment below. My buddy loves classic computers and Atari consoles so that’s generally what we spend time with when he visits. He also never had any exposure to the Amiga, but it’s a system we would both like to explore further.
