Eng. Translation romhack by Ice Translations: https://www.romhacking.net/translations/41/
Known as Double Dragon II in the west (with completely re-done character artwork and music), this is a fun playthrough on the Game Boy. I’m using the Game Boy Color for this one, with the Yellow/Red palette. This is accessible by holding Down+A when the Game Boy is booting.
Note: Endgame credits text is a mixed-up bunch of English letters/numbers (looks kinda like passwords) because of the way text was replaced in this translation.
Pretty simple beat-em-up gameplay here. There are some fun combinations you can play around with, but overall the challenge level is pretty low on this one, once you learn the enemy patterns. Bosses can almost all be cheesed for very easy victories. Still, as a longtime fan of Kunio-Kun I’ve wanted to try out some of the original releases that never made it overseas. With a translation available for this one and it being a very simple brawler, it was easy to get into. There are still dozens of different games in the franchise I have yet to try out, so you can expect more Kunio-Kun in the future as I try the selection there.
Special thanks to brNX for his work on the Game Boy core, and the many others that have contributed to seeing this system represented to it’s fullest on MiSTer.
